Mohamed Chehimi is Senior Research Director at the French CNRS. He received a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from Université Paris 7 in 1988 and a Habilitation in Science (DSc) in 1995. His primary research fields are surface chemistry and XPS surface analysis of reactive and functional materials. Particularly, he is interested in developing thin films, nanocomposites, and diazonium salts as coupling agents in materials science. He is now focusing on sustainable materials chemistry, investigating biochar-based composite production and applications in the energy sector, water depollution, and neglected tropical disease treatments.
He is presently the French PI of a bilateral French-Qatari project (2024-2026) on carbon dioxide methanation using biochar-based catalysts.
He received prestigious distinctions from France, India, Tunisia, and Slovakia.
He serves as an expert reviewer and panelist for numerous research funding agencies in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
He is Editor-in-Chief of Emergent Materials (Springer Nature).
