Joanna Korzekwa (ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3289-4526, Scopus ID: 23982922600) obtained her PhD degree at University of Silesia in Katowice, Faculty of Computer Science and Materials Science (2007). PhD thesis on „The influence of stoichiometry and technological conditions on the phase transitions between the ferro- and antiferroelectric state in PLZT x/90/10 ceramics” were prepared under supervision of Prof. Ryszard Skulski. During her PhD (2005-2006) she joined to the group of Prof. Marija Kosec at Josef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia where she has got the experience in obtaining and application of functional ceramics during Marie-Curie Fellowship.
From 2003 up to present she has been working at University of Silesia in Katowice, firstly as teaching assistant and then as professor assistant. In 2009 she joined to the research group of Prof. Władysław Skoneczny working on technology of surface layers. Her current scientific activities cover mainly on obtaining and investigation of the tribological properties of Al2O3/WS2 (2H or IF) coatings from the structural, mechanical and frictional properties point of view. She is co-author of 43 scientific paper and 3 patents. She has been supervising for more than 20 master or bachelor students. As an academic teacher she has been teaching classes on basic construction and operation of machines, technical mechanics, CAD, design of experiment, computer aided in engineering statistics, manufacturing techniques, materials and methods for materials research.
