Slawomir Boncel is a professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry & Biotechnology at Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland. After a 2-year post-doc in the Department of Materials Science at the University of Cambridge, UK, and sabbaticals at Bioinformatics Institute, A*STAR, Singapore, and Theory of Condensed Matter, University of Cambridge, UK, he currently heads 15-people NanoCarbon Group in his Alma Mater. His research interests concern synthesis, organic chemistry-inspired modifications towards enhanced performance, and applications of nanocarbons – carbon nanotubes, graphene, and quantum dots.
Prof. Boncel is an author of ~100 papers in JCR journals, 4 patents (3 PL, 1 WO), 2 commercialized know-how, and PI in >12 research projects, including group leadership in two EU grants. The representative examples of NanoCarbon Group’s achievements encompass conductive paints for textronics, superactive nanobiocatalysts, masking nets for stealth technology, magnetic drug delivery systems, heat-transfer nanofluids, heat storage phase change nanomaterials, air filters, and other functional polymer nanocomposites. Prof. Boncel collaborates with excellent academic (University of Cambridge, UK, A*STAR, Singapore) and established industrial partners (Airlock389, Azoty Co. Ltd., MacLaren F1 Team, Gatta).
