Rafał Babilas is an assistant professor at the Department of Engineering Materials and Biomaterials, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. His scientific activities focus on conducting research in the priority research areas of the Silesian University of Technology, particularly in the field of materials of the future. The highly rated publications, research projects, and teams he has led aim to discover new materials with amorphous, nanocrystalline, or quasicrystalline structures, as well as high-entropy alloys. He also conducts research on nanomaterials and nanostructured materials with special physicochemical properties, including electrochemical properties. He is a member of the Nanomaterials Team within the Metallic Materials Section of the Committee on Materials Science and Metallurgy at the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is also a member of the Council of the National Consortium of scientific institutions interested in the use of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, France. Currently, he is the principal investigator of the OPUS project titled “Improving the properties of high-entropy alloys through chemical composition design, microstructure modeling, and the production of cellular structures using additive technologies,” funded by the National Science Centre. He is the co-author of 99 publications indexed in the Scopus database, 2 scientific monographs, and 2 patents; his h-index is 14.
