Sylwia Golba is an assistant professor at the Institute of Materials Engineering at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. After receiving her PhD in the group dealing with electroactive polymeric materials, she started working at the Institute of Materials Engineering, where she is the head of the team of functional polymers for medical applications. Her research interests involve the synthesis and testing of polymeric materials for technological applications in the biomedical field, such as electroactive drug delivery systems, hydrogels for contact lenses and elastomeric barrier materials.
Dr. Golba is the author of ~60 papers in JCR journals, 2 patents. The work of the members of the Functional Polymers for Medical Application group combines the knowledge of synthesis of polymeric materials by various methods (electrochemical/chemical) with the impact on the performance of materials in the human body environment. These skills enable the design of synthetic pathways for the polymer material of desired functional properties through a reverse engineering process. Dr. Golba works with established industrial partners on short and long-term projects (Thermoplast S.A, Azoty Co. Ltd., Medintech Co. Ltd.).
