Project title: Creation and development of an ERA Chair and Centre of Excellence in Organic Electronics as a strategic point of development for science and innovation in the Silesian region and Poland (ExCEED)
Location: Poland, Silesia region, Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Faculty of Chemistry.
Project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 ‘Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation’ Work Programme 2018-2020 under grant agreement No. 952008.
Project duration: 1.09.2020 – 31.08.2025
The overall aim of the ExCEED project is to recruit an outstanding researcher and manager to be the ERA Chair Holder as well as recruit experienced researchers and innovation manager for the Silesian University of Technology (SUT) to establish the multidisciplinary Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Organic Electronics, which will increase SUT’s, Silesia’s and Poland’s attractiveness for the internationally excellent and mobile researchers. To achieve this aim, the five-year project has been built upon the existing strong research and innovation base of SUT and the high impact ERA Chair Holder.
ExCEED specifically AIMS TO:
- Strengthen SUT’s research excellence in organic electronics;
- Enhance the science and innovation capacity of SUT;
- Raise the research profile of SUT;
- Contribute to the SMART Specialization Strategy of Poland;
- Support science and innovation on a European level.
The ExCEED project stimulates increased research excellence in organic electronics at SUT. To boost the scientific excellence and technology transfer capacity of SUT in organic electronics, the ExCEED implements a science and innovation strategy focused on four sub-topics:
- Organic Transistors
- Organic Light-Emitting Diodes
- Organic Solar Cells
- Organic Energy Storage Systems
THE EXPECTED IMPACT WILL BE ACHIEVED VIA THE PROJECT’S ACTION PLAN:
- Action Step 1: Recruit ERA Chair Holder, Experienced Researchers, and Innovation Manager.
- Action Step 2: Establish ERA Chair Strategic Research Programme and Postgraduate Training.
- Action Step 3: Ensure the CoE supports Poland’s SMART Specialisation and EU Research Priorities.
- Action Step 4: Raise the research profile of the CoE and ERA Chair Team.
- Action Step 5: Disseminate the results of the CoE and ERA Chair Team.
THE EXCEED PROJECT WILL LEAD TO DEVELOP:
- Strategic research Programme for the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Organic Electronics – Centre for Organic and Nanohybrid Electronics (CONE).
- Master’s Training Programme dedicated to Organic Electronics. This specialization will be offered as an option amongst the three Master’s programmes.
- PhD Training Programme in Organic Electronics within the Faculty of Chemistry together with SUT’s Department of Organic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry and Biotechnology and Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Polymers.
- Organizing workshops relevant to EU R&D calls for proposals to prepare applications to EU R&D calls for proposals relevant to Organic Electronics.
- Organizing international conferences with a focus on Organic Electronics providing an interdisciplinary forum with top level experts in the field.
- Organizing workshops relevant to Poland’s SMART Specialization priorities with local/national stakeholders involved in organic electronics: public bodies (government debts and public research organizations), industry associations and companies to raise awareness of the CoE’s research activities amongst local stakeholders and to ensure the ERA Chair’s Strategic Research Programme supports local needs.
- Organizing summer and winter schools dedicated to young researchers (MSc, PhD and Post-docs).
