Mateusz Niedźwiedź (ORCID: 0000-0001-9279-3121, Scopus Author ID: 57204662520) is a doctor of engineering and technical sciences in the discipline of materials science. He is employed as an assistant at the Institute of Materials Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, the University of Silesia in Katowice. He graduated from engineering and master’s studies in the field of mechatronics.
Dr Eng. Niedźwiedź during his scientific career, deals with the modification of aluminum alloys with the electrolytic method through direct current anodizing. The produced coatings were used for further modification with the thermo-chemical method. Modifications of both the aluminum alloy and layers allowed to reduce the wear of both the tribo partner and the oxide layer and influenced their microhardness. Thanks to the research, it was possible to obtain a self-lubricating sub-layer containing chromium oxide with strongly hydrophilic properties on the surface of the oxide layer. It was possible to produce layers with hydrophobic properties and to link the wettability of the oxide layers with their wear. The new research direction of Dr Eng. is a modification of light metal alloys (magnesium and aluminum) through the production of coatings, among others as a result of plasma anodizing. The aim is to modify the produced coatings by both electrolytic and thermo-chemical methods. Dr Eng. Niedźwiedź is a co-author of 10 international publications from the Journal Citation Reports database.
